FIX FOR A TEXT NECK POSTURE
THINK POSTURE DOESN’T MATTER? TAKE A LOOK?
One thing we really need to appreciate about the human body is it’s ability to ADAPT. We have always relied on our ability to adapt a stressful environment to survive. Think about it, when it is COLD outside, we SHIVER to warm up. Likewise, when it is HOT, we SWEAT to col off. This is the very principle we utilize to get BIGGER, FASTER AND STRONGER. You know…add more weight, more sets and your body changes.
As we age in this technological time period our body learns to master (and adapt to) the forward flexed position. “Masters of the forward flexed position,” is very nice way of saying our bodies have adapted real well to the seated positions.
This can spell DOOM the health of our shoulders. Basically what occurs is that our arm can just run out of space in the shoulder socket as we lift our arm overhead.
NOW, if you don’t need to pick your arm overhead..WHO CARE’S?!?!?!
BUT IF YOU THINK THIS ISN’T A REAL PROBLEM, try this:
ROLL YOUR SHOULDERS INWARDS AS MUCH AS YOU CAN. KEEPING THIS ROLLED IN POSITION, TRY RAISING YOUR ARMS.
Of course…..that didn’t work out too well.
Before we understand “why,” it is probably important to first understand just what your shoulder is. Your shoulder is really just your arm that sits inside a socket. Your arm has a little ball at the end of it that sits in a big cavity that rests in the top corner of your shoulder blade. This “little ball in a big socket,” relationship means that that the shoulder should have a great deal of mobility.
